Sun Temple

Sun Temple::-The Sun Temple is referred to as the 'Arka Kshetra' at Konark in Puri district. It was previously renowned as the Arka Kshetra in ancient scriptures. In this temple, the Sun, meaning Surya, was worshiped. Lord Krishna's son Samba performed penance here and was freed from leprosy.During the reign of Langula Narasimha Dev, after defeating the Nawab of Bengal, Tughri Khan, the Konark Temple was constructed. After the fall of the Konark Temple, the Sun God worshiped there is now being worshiped within the precincts of the current shrine, and the Aruna pillar of Konark stands in front of the entrance gate of the new temple. This was relocated during the Maratha rule.On the sacred Shambha Dashami day, the Rath Yatra of Lord Mahabhaskar at the Arka Kshetra is celebrated at Konark.
